Solar Ovens Wind Power and Saving Money Ahoy!
I have been thinking a lot about renewable energy sources like solar and wind energy. Not because I am all into a concern for the environment directly, but more because of an interest in the money saving aspects of these ideas.

One of the items I've been looking at seriously is the solar oven. I can see a potential for more savings than you might think in such an item, and I have found a group that not only sells well-made solar ovens, they also work to introduce solar ovens in developing nations as a way to provide safe means of producing food and safe water without encouraging deforestation. The group Solar Cookers International. I think it would be nice to purchase and use a product to allow me not only to use less energy to cook but also use less energy to cool the house back down from the heating caused by cooking in hot weather, but would also let me contribute something to developing nations.

That's a picture of the unit I like.

I've also become curious about windmills. Apparently the only governing principals that might effect the use of these on our city lot are the height of the tower and whether it can be placed without having to overstep the bounds of our lot. Other than that is the cost issue. I was a bit shocked when I heard the price of a completed, installed unit of any size. The companies I've researched maintain you'll recoup the investment over the life of the product, but I have some questions about this because of course I expect the equipment will have various repair and maintenance needs that will come along in addition to the initial investment cost. If any reading this have experience with wind technology, I would be happy to hear comments regarding how it's worked out for you along with what particular wind products you are using.
